Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is one of nine faculties of the University of West Bohemia and belongs to the oldest faculties of the colleges in Pilsen. The faculty has gradually transformed into a modern and open educational institution and has become a recognized institution in science and research.
In study programmes, accredited by the government, the faculty prepares qualified specialists who are highly appreciated at the job market. Individual departments are accredited for research programmes, doctorate and habilitation programmes and professorship procedures.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering exploits both cooperation among Czech and foreign technical colleges and cooperation in industrial practice. It has numerous contacts with universities in Europe and the United States. A range of acquired contacts and projects enable our students and teachers to study and work, thus bring new findings and experience to our academic environment.
The original College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and in Pilsen was establishced in autumn of 1949 as a part of the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) in Prague. Since 1950, it has worked as an individual faculty and, in 1953, it acquired an independent position of a college headed by a rector and started to develop.
At that time, it had only one department of electrical engineering called „Department of Electrical Engineering Sciences“. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering was established simultaneously with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1960 by dividing the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Pilsen. Other subjects aimed at electrical energetics, electronics and computers, were starting to gain higher position in the society.
It is also a part of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, which was established on 28 September 1991. According to its main specialisation in research and development, the faculty is divided into five departments.
The departments offer specialist work and services including technical equipment for partners from the industrial environment from the Czech Republic, as well as abroad. Since its establishment, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been represented by successfully solved tasks in theoretical an application fields.
Faculty of Electrical Engineering

According to the focus of the main research and development activities, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is divided into five departments.
Departments offer their expert work and service including technical equipment for partners from industry from both the Czech Republic and from abroad. During its existence, the Faculty of electrical engineering can present many successfully resolved tasks from both theoretical and application areas.
Faculty of Applied Sciences
The Faculty of Applied Sciences is one of the faculties of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. In study programmes, accredited by the government, the faculty prepares qualified specialists who are highly appreciated at the job market.
Apart from educational programmes, the faculty also offers various activities in research and development. Individual departments are accredited for research programmes, have accredited research programmes, doctoral study programmes and can perform habilitation as well as professorship procedures.
Thanks to the cooperation and good relations with foreign universities, the faculty offers its students the possibility of faculty internships in many countries around the world.
